Requiem Jewelry Set

The Requiem Jewelry Set is a simple and easy tutorial for creating a yarn jewelry set to represent and support pregnancy and infant loss awareness.

Design Inspiration

Trigger Warning: Pregnancy Loss. Almost three years ago, my husband and I experienced the loss of our first child through miscarriage. Our experience is not a rare one as 1 in 4 women will lose a baby during pregnancy, delivery, or after birth. The loss of a child is a truly devastating experience and often feels isolating. Breaking through the stigma surrounding child loss is about creating awareness. October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month and the specific ribbon colors are a combination of pink and blue. This yarn jewelry set was created with love for everyone who wishes to acknowledge all the little lives gone too soon.

Crochet Colors of My Heart Education Set – Instructions

Earring (make 2)

Step 1: cut one ~4” length of yarn for each color

Step 2: separate each length of yarn into individual strands (# per color)

Step 3: select one strand of either color and set it aside for tying around the main group of strands

Step 4: thread the main group of strands through your needle and pull through the interior loop of the earring

Step 5: adjust the main group of strands so that it is even on each side of the interior loop and use the single strand that you set aside earlier to tie the main group together at the top, directly below the interior loop, in order to from a tassel

Step 6: trim the ends of the tassel to desired length

Repeat steps 1-6 for the second earring

Bracelet

Step 1: measure around the wrist your wish to make the bracelet for

Step 2: cut four lengths (two for each color) of the yarn at ~2.5 times the length you measured in step 1

Step 3: fold each length in half, group all lengths together, slip middle grouping through a silicone o-ring, pull all the yarn tails through the middle loop to secure to the o-ring

Step 4: group the lengths into four groups (I group by colors and started with the blue groups on the outside and the pink groups in the center)

Step 5: braid the groups together in a four-strand braid pattern (check sizing as your braid gets longer to ensure ideal fit)

Step 6: when you have reached your ideal braid length place a clip/clamp at the end of the braid, use a tapestry needle to sew the ends through the hole in the silicone bead (pink or blue), tie off

Step 7: separate ends into individual strands to create a tassel look
