Crochet Nixie Mermaid Doll

The Crochet Nixie Mermaid Doll is a simple and free pattern using single crochet to create a beautiful amigurumi mermaid.

Design Inspiration

What’s the summer without a little mermaid fun? Growing up, I remember countless summers filled with pool time. We had all sorts of games we’d play. We’d do handstands and flips, see who could create the best George Washington hairdo, and giggle our way through Marco Polo. But one of our favorite things to play was mermaids. We’d gather toys and tidbits as our treasures, pretend we could brush our wet hair with forks, and practically live under the water. This crochet mermaid doll is a representation of what I always imagined to be the perfect mermaid. I’m so pleased with how Nixie turned out and I hope you’ll love her too!

Hair

In color C, cut long strands of approximately the same length

For the bangs, weave a strand through the sts between rounds 5 and 6 (in and out for 10 sts across), leaving loops where the yarn comes over the sts. Once the opposite side is reached, weave the strand back through the loops you left. Repeat this process for the second bang working from the opposite side of the head between rounds 4 and 5.

Between rounds 3 and 4 (and directly behind the second bang), find the middle of one strand of yarn and pull it through the st, work the tails of the strand through the pulled up loop and tighten. I used this process seven times to cover the area behind the bangs.

For the undercut, work in between rounds 2 and 3 (and directly behind the previous section). Weave one end of a strand through and make the tails even. Weave the ends of the tails through the bottom of the back of the head (approximately between round 17 and 18). I used this process six times and weaved the tails in such a fashion that they look like they are being clipped back.

Style hair per preference. I couldn’t decide my favorite, so I have included a few styles in the photos.

Top

In color D, ch 16

Row 1: sc across (15)

Row 2: sc blo across (15)

Finish off and use the ends to bring the top together around the body and tie the bow, trim to preference
